LLC Poltava Locomotive Repair Plant specializes in modernization of shunting, mainline and passenger locomotives. Plant has successfully developed and implemented a number of projects on deep modernization for locomotives.

  • For the first time in Ukraine, our enterprise developed and implemented a project on the modernization of the TEM-2 series diesel locomotives with the replacement of a morally and physically outdated diesel engine with a QST30-L2 Cummins one, which is paired with the A735U2 traction unit as well as another new modern equipment produced by leading Ukrainian and foreign manufacturers.

    The following innovations were introduced during the modernization for the TEM-2 locomotive:

    • modernization for the electric transmission by installing a traction rectifier and converters on a modern element base;
    • installation of an electronic microprocessor diagnostic and control system with a monitor on a locomotive;
    • installation of the Mattei M111J rotary-plate compressor (Italy) driven by an electric motor;
    • modernization of the refrigerator shaft with the installed fan driven by an electric motor;
    • installation of the electric traction motor cooling fans;
    • restoration of geometric dimensions and load-bearing capacity of trolley frames, which has extended the service life for the locomotive by 10 years
    • installation of an air conditioner, refrigerator, microwave oven and ergonomic driver’s chairs.
  • Locomotives of the ChME-3 series – together with the CZ LOKO companies, the modernization of the ChME-3 locomotives with the installation of 3512V  Caterpillar diesel engines was developed (at the moment, 2 locomotives are successfully operating in the depot of JSC UKRAINIAN RAILWAYS).

  • Diesel locomotives of the 2TE10 series – together with General Electric, 20 locomotives were developed and modernized with the installation of Super Skid power modules for the Yakutsk railway. At the request of the customer, D49 (Kolomzavod, RF), 8DZC (ABC, Belgium), Caterpillar (USA), Cummins (USA)diesel engine  can be installed.

  • Diesel locomotives of the 2M62 series – installation of DGU of 5-26 DG type with an additional air and oil purification system – more than 50 locomotives for the enterprises of the Metinvest Holding group and JSC Ulan Bator Railway (Mongolia).

    The design and technological service of LLC POLTAVA LOCOMOTIVE REPAIR PLANT developed modernization projects for:

    • locomotives of the TGM-4 and TGM-6 series with the installation of a new high-speed diesel engine of the QST30 series manufactured by Cummins (the USA) and the modernization of the hydraulic transmission of the UGP series locomotive;
    • locomotives of the TEM-7 series with the installation of an 8DZC diesel engine manufactured by ABC and a new traction unit manufactured by the State Enterprise “Plant” Electrotyazhmash “. At the request of the Customer, the locomotive can be equipped with a D49 diesel engine (Kolomzavod, RF), Caterpillar (USA), Cummins (USA) or a Super Skid module from General Electric (USA).

    In addition to replacing power units during modernization we also offer:

    • installation of a microprocessor-based control and diagnostic system;
    • modernization of the high-voltage chamber with the installation of a modern element base;
    • replacement of standard air compressors with a modern screw ones (manufactured by JSC NPAO VNII Kompressormash, Sumy) and rotary-plate compressors (manufactured by Mattei, Italy) or other;
    • installation of locomotive alarm system (ALS-MU  type);
    • installation of a fuel consumption control system;
    • installation of a diesel preheating system;

Modernization of diesel locomotives of the TEM-1, TEM-2 series

PDG-1M diesel generator set was installed during the modernization of the TEM-1M locomotive. The rated engine power increased by 20% to 880 kW (1200 hp), which in turn has a positive effect on the traction characteristics of the locomotive due to the increased traction force. The traction electric motors of the EDT200 B type were replaced with more modern traction electric motors of the ED-118A type. Also, the electrical circuit of the locomotive was changed with a complete replacement of the wiring, taking into account the new installed equipment. ALSN was installed and the supporting structures of the frame were restored.

Our company has developed a project on the modernization for a diesel locomotive of the TEM2 series with the installation of Caterpillar (USA), Cummins (USA), ABC (Belgium), Mini Skid GE (USA) modern diesel engines.

TEM2 modernization

Our enterprise, together with SE “Plant” Electrotyazhmash “, NPP” Telsis “, LLC” KEP “developed and implemented a project on the modernization of  locomotives of the TEM2 series with the installation of the QST30-L2 Cummins diesel engine which is paired with the A735U2 traction unit , as well as another new modern production equipment for leading Ukrainian and foreign manufacturers.
